Whoever would have thought that hip-hop would go from ultra-lyrical and pivotal to on a hospital bed in critical? Back in the day you had to be unique and creative, now if you mimic you are major. Well at least that’s the case in the mainstream. True emcees are like precious gems, because they’re born underground. One listen to Cheech Bundy and you’ll catch feelings of nostalgia. Nostalgia, not from a dated sense, more so a reflection of those elements that are missing in the mainstream. He is an artist who found a mesh between neo and classical. Cheech Bundy’s work can easily appeal to a broad audience of hip hop lovers, from purists of old to youthful souls.
For him to have found this medium he would have to be a student of the culture. Most graduates of esteemed schools find ways to give back to their respective school. Graduates of Ivy League schools who become successful usually contribute something back to their alma mater. Cheech Bundy’s Boom Bap Rap Project is an audio contribution to the university of hip hop. This project is a beautiful ode to the purity of raw 90’s lyricism. It’s a reflection of the vibe that infused the music and era Cheech experience coming up. In a sense it’s visiting the essence of Cheech’s childhood.
Bundy’s audio treasure chest contains various jewels to sift through. It begins with the intro setting the tone for the project with “Phat Boy Smokes.” In this track speaks of how he is showing his age and how he attained being skillful with ink stains. “You had to live it, to learn it,” says Bundy. This is a powerful line and could possibly be the main reason why many of the young rappers these days have no respect for the essence of hip-hop culture. How can one respect what they have never experienced? Another gem is 1996, which is a crazy head nod, audio visual of that time period. The vibe continues to accelerate with the joint “HipHopNerd” ft. Blu. This track exhibits insane levels of raw lyricism. Artist Blu meshes well within the lyrical onslaught that Cheech sparks the track off with. “Retrospect”………lawdhammercyyyyyyyyyyy. Look, no more spoilers…this album takes you on a hip hop high. Dope beats, dope lyrics and a history lesson….this is hip hop.
One can do nothing but respect this project which is Bundy’s retrospect through rap. He takes us on a journey via sound. Imagine hopping in the cockpit of the DeLorean with Cheech in the driver’s seat, listening to boom bap as you blast to the past, when hip-hop had class. This album has a back to the future flow. Listen to this album at high volumes and don’t forget your neck brace. This is a timeless joint that is enjoyable from into to the poetic eclectic outro.

Signatures are common as it pertains to art. Throughout history artists have found ways to engrave their mark on a respective piece. Sometimes its a written signature and other times it's something intricate sign of authenticity. For instance Marley Marl had that classic snare. Another example is DJ Premier. It's not hard to tell a Premo beat when you hear it. There are artists who create as they are inspired...These types of individuals have no signature other than dopeness. [offbeatninja] represents the few who still creative from the depths of their spirit. Each release is something completely different from the last. Being that he switches it up every outing, it's always intriguing to see what style or ground he will break via tape.
This time around he goes the calming and soulful route. It opens with a blissful intro track which leads into something with a late night special feel. After the late night groove you have the smooth sounds another track you'll cherish. After the smoothness you slide into the brilliant title track of the project. The project comes to a close with islands for dumb youth. This project has that escape route feel to it. If you're someone who is constantly on the verge of drop kicking a co-worker or anything of that nature, you definitely need to get your hands on this project. You'll have to listen to understand many of the riddles that were played out during the course of this review.
Overall in the world we live in people want to be happy. Given everyone's respective life people are always on the hunt for some of narcotic. A source to escape pain and the mundane via narcotic induced euphoria. Music can again mellow moods and
help to escape gloom. This is the embodiment of Liquid Bling. This project here is an experience well worth the price. Tune in and see undoubtedly how the skills [obn] hones will leave a signature on your soul.

It takes a brilliant mind to use a small fraction of something and create a groundbreaking piece with it. This is the Essence of Hip Hop. The evolution of the DJ, from looping breaks to making beats. Its like a feast and having someone magnify one the treats. A person with a dynamic ear that can take a certain point of a record and rock the party with it....That's pure brilliance. Producer God's Touch does this with the classic film City of God. He takes one of the supporting characters from the film and allows you to experience his life via song. If you're reading this and you haven't seen this epic film, I encourage you to do so. Fans of the film will understand the magnitude of greatness this project has.

I hate Final Fantasy XIII with a passion but this time I'm going to overlook that because the story told here is greater than anything that Daisuke Watanabe could have ever dreamed of.
DJ DAX brings us without a doubt one of the most well thought out concept albums of this year with #FutureFantasy. Sampling the Final Fantasy XIII soundtrack, DJ DAX aggressive rhyme style and extremely well thought out lyrics takes us into a personal journey of a man balancing his place in this world with his faith and his relationships with the characters of FFXIII. One song in particular that impressed me was "Struck" which starts off as a love ballad to Lightning that's so well done that I'm starting to believe she's real with mellow production from JairTheShadow & DJ-KGIZZY it strikes the perfect tone. "Azure Soul" wouldn't be out of place in any upscale lounge with a laid back groove while speaking on his one true love.
Though the use of Traditional Boom Bap, Electro, Trap and Lounge DJ DAX weaves a complete story that any fan of hip-hop or even FFXIII could enjoy as the Main Character finally succeeds and for a bonus boss battle get to fight Sephiroth.

I can proudly attest that there are days that you wake up as an artist and want to do something different, something a bit unsafe because you don't know how your fans would react to a departure from the norm. POLAR & CINTURON NEGRO have pretty much made that the norm in their musical journey as Maquinistas and the Arouse EP proves that different is better.
Part Hip-Hop and part Electronica, Arouse uses a blend of 70's Sci-fi & Porn samples to give you the sensation that you've just been abducted by beautiful hip hugger & bell bottom wearing aliens with dank beats in the background. One of my favorite tracks starts in @6:42 (the EP is just one track) that is simply indescribable. To be truthful trying to describe this EP is like giving a description to a blind man what the color blue looks like. It just has to be experienced.

While listening to this album I'm reminded that I know this cat. While that isn't entirely relevant to this post (because I will refuse to do a review if the release is not up to par) it reminds me that every major artist had an starting point. Imagine the guys that knew Nas or Black Thought before they gained fame. That's the thought process that I'm using to write this review.
The very thought that you are put into the mindset of an midnight watching Adult Swim with an album filled with Vaporwave, Lo-FI and Boom Bap is quite an undertaking with nary a dull moment to be had. RealVenom starts off with "True Intro" which is an chin check for any emcee listening. Rapid fire rhymes over an piano loop that will have anyone rewinding to catch the last verse with that "did he just say that" look on their face. Another stand out track and my personal favorite is "Whatever Happens, Happens........" with production by Canis Major which is a thought provoking ballad about survival in this day in age with a Cowboy Bebop backdrop that really hits home with anyone that has been pushed to the limit. If I didn't know any better I would have sworn this album came out int '96.

If I had to sum up all of my dreams and then add a Vaporwave overlay this would be the result. You can't help but to be filled with life listening to the lyrics of Lé Real 現 while vibing to the potent production of Macross 82-99, Contact Lens, REVERB LITE & other notables that reads like a who's who of the Vaporwave world.
You would be hard pressed to stop this recording only to be reminded of the crushing corporate driven diet we live off of chucking back Big Macs and drinking Capri Suns. Damn, thanks Vaporwave...........
You can listen to what's probably one of the best releases of 2016 here.
After taking these herbs if you start to loose feeling in your arms and legs then it's the good stuff. I spoke with Erotnas about an upcoming project a while ago and he told me about his past listening to old reggae shows and such while recording them with his handy tape deck. Well after purchasing this cassette I have to say the feeling has been fully translated to this release. I actually felt like I was listening to something that was supposed to be long forgotten and forbidden, part of the reason why I love lo-fi music. This tape is filled with extremely rare clips of reggae shows all with the knowledge that aside from this release you'll never hear the majority of this music again.
The tape is here http://erotnas.bandcamp.com and you can listen to the teaser here.
The Midnight Lo-Fi Rhythm Tape.
Since this is my own project I can't say anything about it other than give it a listen if you wish to have an MIND BENDING EXPERIENCE THE LIKES OF WHICH WILL MAKE EVERY BIT OF PLEASURE IN YOUR LIFE SEEM PALE IN COMPARISON.
This is The Shameless Review Blog and it seems my entire life has lead to this which feels me with a profound sadness. Dammit this isn't fair. I could have actually been someone in life but I refused to get in the damn robot *sniff, sniff*.
