I hate Final Fantasy XIII with a passion but this time I'm going to overlook that because the story told here is greater than anything that Daisuke Watanabe could have ever dreamed of.
DJ DAX brings us without a doubt one of the most well thought out concept albums of this year with #FutureFantasy. Sampling the Final Fantasy XIII soundtrack, DJ DAX aggressive rhyme style and extremely well thought out lyrics takes us into a personal journey of a man balancing his place in this world with his faith and his relationships with the characters of FFXIII. One song in particular that impressed me was "Struck" which starts off as a love ballad to Lightning that's so well done that I'm starting to believe she's real with mellow production from JairTheShadow & DJ-KGIZZY it strikes the perfect tone. "Azure Soul" wouldn't be out of place in any upscale lounge with a laid back groove while speaking on his one true love. Though the use of Traditional Boom Bap, Electro, Trap and Lounge DJ DAX weaves a complete story that any fan of hip-hop or even FFXIII could enjoy as the Main Character finally succeeds and for a bonus boss battle get to fight Sephiroth. I can proudly attest that there are days that you wake up as an artist and want to do something different, something a bit unsafe because you don't know how your fans would react to a departure from the norm. POLAR & CINTURON NEGRO have pretty much made that the norm in their musical journey as Maquinistas and the Arouse EP proves that different is better.
Part Hip-Hop and part Electronica, Arouse uses a blend of 70's Sci-fi & Porn samples to give you the sensation that you've just been abducted by beautiful hip hugger & bell bottom wearing aliens with dank beats in the background. One of my favorite tracks starts in @6:42 (the EP is just one track) that is simply indescribable. To be truthful trying to describe this EP is like giving a description to a blind man what the color blue looks like. It just has to be experienced. Listen and Download the Arouse EP

While listening to this album I'm reminded that I know this cat. While that isn't entirely relevant to this post (because I will refuse to do a review if the release is not up to par) it reminds me that every major artist had an starting point. Imagine the guys that knew Nas or Black Thought before they gained fame. That's the thought process that I'm using to write this review. The very thought that you are put into the mindset of an midnight watching Adult Swim with an album filled with Vaporwave, Lo-FI and Boom Bap is quite an undertaking with nary a dull moment to be had. RealVenom starts off with "True Intro" which is an chin check for any emcee listening. Rapid fire rhymes over an piano loop that will have anyone rewinding to catch the last verse with that "did he just say that" look on their face. Another stand out track and my personal favorite is "Whatever Happens, Happens........" with production by Canis Major which is a thought provoking ballad about survival in this day in age with a Cowboy Bebop backdrop that really hits home with anyone that has been pushed to the limit. If I didn't know any better I would have sworn this album came out int '96. You can check out the EP here. If I had to sum up all of my dreams and then add a Vaporwave overlay this would be the result. You can't help but to be filled with life listening to the lyrics of Lé Real 現 while vibing to the potent production of Macross 82-99, Contact Lens, REVERB LITE & other notables that reads like a who's who of the Vaporwave world. You would be hard pressed to stop this recording only to be reminded of the crushing corporate driven diet we live off of chucking back Big Macs and drinking Capri Suns. Damn, thanks Vaporwave........... You can listen to what's probably one of the best releases of 2016 here.
After taking these herbs if you start to loose feeling in your arms and legs then it's the good stuff. After listening to this tape the colors may seem brighter and the food may taste that much better, but it only last while the tape is rolling. A new foray into rhythm brought to us by Northern Light@ & Treru courtesy of o-nei-ric Tapes.

I spoke with Erotnas about an upcoming project a while ago and he told me about his past listening to old reggae shows and such while recording them with his handy tape deck. Well after purchasing this cassette I have to say the feeling has been fully translated to this release. I actually felt like I was listening to something that was supposed to be long forgotten and forbidden, part of the reason why I love lo-fi music. This tape is filled with extremely rare clips of reggae shows all with the knowledge that aside from this release you'll never hear the majority of this music again.
The tape is here http://erotnas.bandcamp.com and you can listen to the teaser here.
The Midnight Lo-Fi Rhythm Tape.
Since this is my own project I can't say anything about it other than give it a listen if you wish to have an MIND BENDING EXPERIENCE THE LIKES OF WHICH WILL MAKE EVERY BIT OF PLEASURE IN YOUR LIFE SEEM PALE IN COMPARISON. This is The Shameless Review Blog and it seems my entire life has lead to this which feels me with a profound sadness. Dammit this isn't fair. I could have actually been someone in life but I refused to get in the damn robot *sniff, sniff*. Listen and download it here: https://soundcloud.com/zero_system/aleph |
